If you know me at all, you know I have a serious diet soda addiction.
We're talking 3+ liters a day.
But...I kinda wonder if it's half the reason I always feel like crap, so this weekend was a lot of not drinking that crap, and drinking water.
The effort right now is to not consume soft drinks at home, and not be a pain in the ass about it when we're out. If we need to share a drink, I'll indulge in a little diet soda. But for the most part...water.
Our water here, even filtered, tastes like crap, so there's going to be a lot of plastic bottle abuse, but I have to start somewhere.
=twitch=
Have to admit, it hasn't been difficult and I thought it would be...but my tongue feels funny. Go figure.

How do you feel about fruit-flavored water? Dropping a few slices of cucumber, citrus, or watermelon into a pitcher of filtered water might resolve the taste issue without needing to buy bottled.
I used sparkling water for awhile. It did away with that funny tongue feeling. To this day, though , the water has to be cold. Go figure.....
Good luck. If I stopped soda cold turkey, I would be in bed with a migraine!
Get a Brita Filter so you won't use all those plastic water bottles!
This'll be the Best Thing you'll do for yourself in 2013! Hubby quit drinking diet soda and it was a big step for him in his weight loss and (eventual) cessation of his diabetes.
he drank seltzer water to help the transition.
Drinking cold water tastes better than room temp. Agree with putting some slices of lemon, orange, lime in the water to flavor it.
Also if you start buying bottled water, look into a house filter for your drinking water. It can take the funky taste out of tap water.
I gave up diet soda cold turkey in 1997 because of perforating ulcers. I also can't drink coffee, juice, dairy etc. I drink bottled water only (I have a standing order from Whole Foods for Volvic from France. I do drink iced or hot tea on occasion but watered down for certain. I don't mind. Pop and stress was killing me. I never got a headache or withdrawal either.
If you ever feel the need for soda but would like to keep up with the water, Safeway Refreshe flavored water is great! It's bubbly and comes in some great flavors - my favorites are the Key Lime and the Orange Creme.
I like the Safeway refresh things, but I'm also trying to get away from aspartame. So far, I'm not twitching like I thought I would without it.
Since you are wanting to drink more water I know that you would love a brand called Fiji water! It is the best bottled water that I have ever tasted and bottled water is the only water I drink! I do not like the chemical taste in regular tap water. Hope it works for you!
I think every now & then of giving up pop.(I drink caffeine free diet... ie:flavored bubbly water!) I have trouble drinking plain water because its not bubbly or flavored. I've bought the individual packets of Crystal Light with just the right measure for a bottle as well as those wee little squirty bottles of flavor you squirt into your water. I just slowly drift back to the pop. I'm hoping to get to some kind of 50/50 thing, but its difficult.
That much sugar substitute cannot be good for you. And I never did get the distinction between the bottles that hold water (bad) and the bottles that hold soft drinks, tea etc (not bad), so drink all the bottled water you can!
