John Barry's Moviola.
I picked it up on a whim at least 12 years ago, maybe 13 or 14, and it's been one of my favorites since then. Sometimes I pop open the laptop to work, and before I even have music going, I hear the opening strains of Out of Africa. The music is soothing, classy without being too classical, and so near perfection that if you just sit back and close your eyes, it wraps around you, both feather soft and tightly coiled.
I was listening to it yesterday as I worked, and even put a link to the CD on Amazon on my Facebook page.
Then today I hopped online, hit FARK, and found a headline about John Barry.
He died today.
That kinda sucks.
I'll probably play the same CD over and over, letting it swell in the background while I finish this book, but the idea that we'll never hear anything new from him?
Yeah. Sucks.

I am a big fan of movie music and I don't mean the top 40 stuff that is being passed off as suck. I have thousands of soundtracks in my collection both on vinyl and cd. Barry was grand, wasn't he? My favorite is Hanover Street and
2nd would be The L Shaped Room. I think I will go into a cave for life when John Williams lays down his baton. I actually go to movies for the soundtracks. Sometimes that is all that is good about anything these days. If you have XM, take a listen to Cinamagic. ONe of two I listen to driving across the USA>
From your post, I sought out & listened to John Barry's soundtrack to Moviola...simply beautiful. While there I saw a link to a movie he had done the soundtrack for...a movie I saw when it was released way back in 1971. The movie is 'Walkabout'.
I have never seen a more moving & disturbing movie since.
I am watching it now in segments, on You Tube.
