16 April 2010

I had honestly expected that by now I would have reached my goal weight; we started this back in July and I was losing weight at a pretty good clip thanks to Jenny Craig, and I did reasonably well on my own after being booted out of the program—right up until the beginning of 2010. Since then, I've lost a grand total of 3 pounds, and to say I'm discouraged is an understatement.

I wasn't overeating; if anything I was under-eating, but adding a couple hundred calories a day to my diet didn't work. I was having some serious medication issues—my DDAVP was working too well, and I had to skip it a couple of nights a week in order to shed added water weight—but that shouldn't have affected my metabolism.

Other than jacking up my activity level, I'm stumped. At my height and weight, with the calorie level I've been taking in, I should be able to drool and burn body fat.

Hence, the Trikke. It's a very low impact, full body workout, and something I can do every day, especially now that I can really get it moving. I had it out for an hour this morning and half an hour again later this afternoon, and was on it for an hour yesterday...but if I don't start losing weight again, I swear, I'm throwing in the towel and going on a pizza and Sees candy diet.

I should have reached my goal by now, and frankly, I'm kinda pissed that I haven't.

I have always been told the last 20 to 30 pounds are the hardest and most stubborn fat cells to loose. I know how discouraging it is. You need to change up your eating and exercise for a week and then get back on track.

How stressed are you? Stress can slow down weight loss.

Not stressed at all...I have an enviably stress free life. I mean, it's a hard day when I have to decide between diet cherry dr. pepper and diet root beer...

Thumper, we live the same life. With all the activity and what little food I eat (with minimal "crap" to be honest), I should be able to drool and loose weight, too.

I have battled my weight for 20+ years. With all the Polish dance and TKD (5x/week for 4 years) and everything else you'd think the fat would just be sliding off of me. :Growl:

I'm waiting for the weather to be really nice (and certain people to get the garage cleaned or move the hell out) so I can move my workout bag to there. I need to hit things. I want my weapons back. (It's the only thing that truly makes me happy while working out.) And sooner or later you and I both have to start losing weight. We just have to.

And if not, I'll buy the chocolate and vodka when we see each other.

I can tell you that upping your activity level will actually cause you to not lose (or gain) weight. Your body says "hey, I may need those calories so I'm keepin' 'em!" That should go away as you keep exercising. I gained 3 lbs when I started exercising. Took 2 weeks to lose that again. Also, your body can sometimes take a break, per se, from losing weight. It kind of needs a breather before starting to shed the pounds again.

Remember, it took time to gain the weight, so it takes time to lose it. (trite, but true, I know!) Apr 22 will be 1 year since I started my own weight loss journey. I've lost 40lbs. I still need to lose ~60 more. Yeah, it'd be nice to be done, but hey, I'm *still* two whole sizes smaller than when I started - I haven't been a 16W in *decades*! I say keep it up and congratulations on what you've already lost. You can get there!

An odd question perhaps, but...how's your thyroid?

I've been on Synthroid for 7 years...last bloodwork--two weeks ago--had my levels perfectly within normal range. It's a conundrum...

All right, that was way cool....but I kept thinking it was just what we need, another way to make us all fatter LOL

As developments in robotics go, that is WAY cool. But I'd rather have a Trikke than be even *more* lazy than I already am. :)
