Next week, this will be me.
Repeatedly, I'm sure.
For years, the Spouse Thingy and I have talked about giving skiing a try. Talk is all we've done, though, even though we live just a couple hours away from at least a dozen premiere ski resorts.
So now that the ski season is damn near over, we've decided to give it a whirl. He has a couple of weekdays off instead of weekend days--which means he doesn't have to put in for time off, which seems to be kind of hard to get right now--so we're counting on there more being a royal crush of people, and we're going to head up to Sierra-at-Tahoe near South Lake Tahoe, take a cheap beginner's class that includes equipment rental, and we'll try to not die.
You know what's going to happen if we don't die, right?
We're going to love it. And then the snow will melt within two weeks, leaving us until November to be able to do it again.
If you're a NorCal skiier, and there's a sudden heat wave, I apologize. It's our fault.

I hope you enjoy it. I waas not fond of it, but I did give it a try many years ago!
I was always too chicken and considered skiing a rich person's sport. Knew a lot of people in North Carolina who skied when I was going to a university there.
My niece, nephews and their cousins all ski, but, well, they are of a different class.
Good luck and have fun!
I was always too chicken to try it, too. My husband has skied a few times, but he didn't enjoy it enough to want to do it often. I love watching it on TV, though. Hope you don't die.....lol
Ah...
There's nothing like standing atop a beautiful, snow-capped mountain enjoying the view with your loving spouse... and then pushing him off.
Have fun!!! I love it. The only part I hate is the cold!! Yes, if you don't die.....you WILL be hooked!

The Woman has only been skiing for a few years and she loves it. She didn't so much the first time--but who knows? Enjoy! And remember that hot food and a good soak is important to get you warmed up again!
Don't go breaking any legs either.
I would cheerfully come along to observe...from the safety and warmth of the bar...;-)
I love skiing - haven't been able to afford to go in a couple of years. I highly recommend classes. The first time I went, my friends showed me how to snow plow and promptly ditched me. The problem was, I didn't learn well the first time because I didn't get a chance to practice. It took me 2 hours to get down the bunny slope. I vowed to never go again. I was talked into going about 3 years later by someone who insisted I take a class. It made all the difference and led to me loving it now.

PS - my grandmother went skiing for the first time when she was 75 and loved it. Good luck and have a great time.
I am not a great skier. Tried once and my knees reminded me it was not a good idea...
Remember the way they train little kids...Pizza slice and french fries. Make your skies look like two french fries side by side to go fast. Make them form a pizza slice to slow down. Have fun!
