I don't know why, but the cats let me sleep in this morning--late enough that I assumed the Spouse Thingy had already fed them and they were content to just chill out on top of me in bed. After only 3.5 hours of sleep the night (day?) before, I was grateful for it and was in a good mood when I got out of bed.

And dang, he had not fed them. They just let me sleep.

After they were fed I picked up my laptop and got online...and my good mood turned a little sour. Because, in the aftermath of what happened in Japan, I dunno, I had these expectations that everyone would be on board with helping quake and tsunami victims, Because, you know, that's what you do when tragedy hits. You do what you can to help, no matter what it is. Rescue worker skills? You go help. All you can do is donate $5? Donate $5. It all matters, and it all counts.

But poking around online, I keep seeing people talking about how Japan got what it deserved, and we (U.S. citizens) should do nothing because, hey, remember Pearl Harbor?

If you're one of those people...are you fucking insane?

Do you know how long ago that was? And hey, did you forget about the fact that the U.S. bombed the motherfarking hell out of Japan with nuclear bombs???

That war? IT'S OVER. Has been for a long, long time.

And so what if it hadn't? So what if it had been last year or even last week?

When the shit hits the fan like that, when the earth moves and swallows people whole and then drowns a few thousand more, you set the political crap aside and YOU HELP.

So yeah, my mood is a little more sour, because finding out there are so many stupid, sucky people crawling around? It bites.

Plus, something in the kitchen stinks, and I have to figure out what.

I hate cleaning...

There are fewer and fewer men and women that were alive during 'That War' here and anywhere else in the world that have true memories of that time. How many of the people that are complaining drive a car, have a TV, or any other electronic device that was made in Japan. they were not complaining when they spent that money, so why now. You are right , it is over and paid for.

Civilization has become most uncivil. We hates it!

You are so right. I can't believe people would be saying that. Very few people alive now had anything to do with that war, and especially Pearl Harbour.

I'd say to the people who say they got what they deserved:

I'd sure hate to be you the next time you have a crisis. We won't respond, since you deserved it (somehow).

Except...I think most people would respond because deserving or not, it's the right thing to do, and most people are basically decent...

I haven't read any of those nasty comments online today. If I see any, I'll be angry.

HUH?! HUH?!! HUH??!!! I've continued to watch the Wisconsin Unions marching and so I've missed some of those nasty comments. Of course, of there I get people going--oh those WI libs probably are really upset about the earthquake because it knocks them off the news (as if there would be no other reason to be upset...). What is up with all this hatefulness?

I've read some of those nasty comments. And all I could think was - where's your humanity? We should help. We need to help.

We were watching a clip we found (sorry we have lost the link) where they were going into the financial news and the financial guy says, "The human toll was far worse than the financial one so that's good news."...
REALLY? Money.. .People. People Money.. which is really more important?

I don't know what made me cry more-the photos and the realization of what was happening live in front of my eyes or the comments on CNN, Yahoo, the forums and blog posts. No wonder I prefer my furballs to these inhumans. My husband used to work for GM in Asia-China, Korea etc. He often flew in thru that airport that is now underwater and his business partner spent 6 years there. I don't even know personally any of the people they spoke of and hurriedly tried to contact much as a repeat to the Kobe earthquake years ago. We live in a global society where we should work and care intertwined as earth travelers. Why do WE meaning US citizens think we are so much better? No wonder we are hated. The quote mentioned in a comment above was from CNBC> After the 8.9-magnitude earthquake in Japan failed to induce a market nosedive, CNBC’s Larry Kudlow expressed his relief in terms that seemed to appall even his fellow cheerleaders for capitalism: “The human toll here,” he declared, “looks to be much worse than the economic toll and we can be grateful for that.”

You know, Thump, there are always folks who'd rather see harm come to others, for any reason. Thankfully, they're vastly in the minority and don't deserve our attention. You know and I know they don't represent Americans. They don't represent anyone. They're sad, lonely, frightened and angry people. And, unfortunately, many are beyond help.

So, we give help where we can. The people of Japan need us. Let's turn our attention toward them and leave the others in their chosen misery.

Did you find out what stinks in the kitchen?
