Part of the process that I should have expected but didn't--most of the pictures are very, very old and are faded to being barely able to see. Some I won't be able to do anything with, but a lot of them...
My mom. With a bear in Germany. No, I don't know why. |
My dad on the left; he was probably around 22 years old. |
Have to admit, it's been a lot of fun going through these pictures. Some I remember, most I do not, and some are kind of eye opening. I'd forgotten just how social my parents were when I was little--there are a lot of pictures from parties, of people I have absolutely no memory of. Judging by the drinking...I'm pretty sure my parents had no memory of them, either.
Heh.
And now we know for sure where I get it all from.
Yep. That's my mom on the left. On a tricycle. In a helmet. With a giant peace medallion around her neck on a thick chain.
We knew it had to come from somewhere...

I love these pictures! It is definitely a labor of love, but you'll be so glad you scanned them in. I have a few pictures from my grandmother that we photocopied (back before scanning or picture copies were readily available) and, even in their poor quality, I'm so glad to have them.
It is a tedious job, but well worth in in the long run. My Sister and I sat wit Mom one weekend and played "who is that'. I was writing them on the backs of photos as quickly as I could!
I love the cute smile on your dads face in the navy picture! He's enjoying himself being 22 and out in the world! Handsome too!
I have no photos of any of my family unless I took them as an adult. It breaks my heart that my brother thought they weren't important because he could not relate to them. So it's always a joy (with pangs of sad) for me to see other families who do have photos. Thanks for sharing these, Karen. I am glad others feel the history and love in photos. At this point, I would take strangers for long lost relatives just to relate to the times or seasons of history.
Dad was a handsome guy! You all look like you're having such a good time. I haz an envy.
